We are delighted to be the Official Training Partner of Keith Whelan, a young Irish Man intent on being the first to row solo across the Indian Ocean.
In the Spring of 2011 Keith will set off from the West coast of Australia in a specially designed solo class ocean rowing boat and attempt a row of 6000Km across the Indian Ocean in to prevailing winds and currents. He will face 50ft waves, hurricane force winds and unrelenting sun. He will row two hours on, two hours off, 24 hours a day for between 3 and 4 months. And that's if all goes to plan.
Keith had never been in a rowing boat until he met us in 2009. Rowhire, with the kind help of Toby Garbett (Olympic Rower, Double World Champion Rower and Personal Trainer) set to work on Keith in the Summer of 2009 and started with rowing technique on a rowing machine. Frequent visits to Leander at Henley (arguably the worlds most successful and competitive rowing club), hundreds of hours on the WaterRower and the Keiser M3 and lots of time splashing about in a dangerously thin and unstable racing shell and I think we are getting somewhere......
To keep up to date with Keith and his progress follow the links to his website and his blog - its makes interesting reading!
